It was cool to see what you can do with clay outside of the ordinary school stuff.

About the Tour

An Up Close and Personal Encounter with Some of Bucks County’s Finest Contemporary Artists

Over two May weekends a selection of Bucks County PA's finest contemporary artists open their studio doors to the public. The tour showcases nationally and internationally acclaimed artists who make two- and three-dimensional work in various media, including oil paintings, photographs, sculpture, pottery, turned wood and more. Some studios will feature visiting artists and demonstrations take place at select locations. This is all located within a short drive of Philadelphia and New York.

Elephants Eye makes important connections between artists and the community. Collectors can use this opportunity to make informal studio visits, and artwork will be available for purchase. Interior design-minded tour-goers will appreciate this sneak peak into fresh ideas. Artists simply have a more interesting approach to organizing their personal spaces. Many of the artists on the tour work in unique buildings, and display their work in innovative ways.

Students will gain access to career artists as role models. (For more information on learning opportunities, please see our Educational Outreach page.)

Collecting art can be a fulfilling endeavor. It is a process of understanding an artist’s point of view, and bringing that into your life. Many experienced collectors develop relationships with artists, making “studio visits” to learn about their work. For beginning collectors, the Elephants Eye tour is a great way to meet with artists in an informal atmosphere. For experienced collectors, the tour offers an opportunity to see new faces or greet old friends.

This annual event varies each year, as new artists are juried onto the tour and tenured artists develop new bodies of work. Studios are located throughout central and upper Bucks County, and range from charming woodland retreats to converted industrial buildings. This self-paced, self-guided tour allows visitors to tailor their experience to their individual interests. The tour is free and no reservations are required…simply come and enjoy!

About Our Name

“Elephant’s Eye” was derived from Rogers’ and Hammerstein’s “The corn is as high as an Elephant’s Eye” in the musical Oklahoma which was written right here in Bucks County. A little known fact, much like the little known fact that there are nationally and internationally acclaimed contemporary artists who make two- and three-dimensional work in various media, including oil paintings, photographs, sculpture, pottery, turned wood and more, right here in Bucks County. It’s a metaphor for what this tour is all about.
